The role of education is very important in our society. An education is a long-term and never ending process. From the day person is born to the day he dies, he keeps getting knowledge. As a baby, person learns from his environment. As time goes on, his parents and teachers (school and college) contribute to the development of his education. As an adult, person gets knowledge from his job. Generally speaking, people get knowledge from daily communication with others. The education is important because it helps people think and make right decisions. With education, person gets a lot of different possibilities and options with windows open towards outside world.
The language of education has always been the most important principal. But the education involves much more than just the language. Knowing the language will not do much for the person unless it's combined with the knowledge of other subjects. Although there are other important factors of education, the language problem is very important in United States. United States is a diverse country. In all stages of its history, immigrants from all over the world come to America. Usually they don’t know the culture, tradition and language.
If students, who don’t speak English, are isolated in foreign-language classrooms, how are they ever going to learn English? So, based on these circumstances, American educational system has been forced to cope with the problem of linguistic diversity. It focused on bilingual education programs as a way to put immigrants into American society and overcome the language barrier. Bilingual education is defined as a program that uses two languages- student’s native language and English in the classroom by teacher or student or both for different academic purposes.
