The devotion of Buck to his owner in some way reminds me of a dog in Vietnamese literature. It is the dog Vang in “_The old man Hac_” of Nam Cao. Although Vang was not the main character in this short story, he played an important role in the writing. He helped to define his owner, the main character. The readers were moved by the deeply relationship between dog and human. The same as Buck, Vang always wanted to stick with his owner. Nam Cao using his tactful writing skill showed us the understanding of Vang to his owner in difficult circumstances. Especially, similar to Buck, Vang did also devote his life to his owner without hesitation. Buck was willing to devote his life to revenge the Indians killing Thornton, maybe just for taking back his owner’s honor. Vang, in another way, accepted to be sold to bring about the old man Hac a little money for an easier life. The two dogs, friends of human, appeared vividly in each story with their rich emotional life. They were both completely loyal, faithful to their real owner.
