Customer Service Technologies:
Over the years anyone can attest to the incredible changes technology is making. Technology affects almost every aspect of our lives. Just look around you and you'll see how connected we are. Thanks to the Internet, virtually anything you desire can be delivered to your door in a matter of days. Personal information is more accessible over the Internet as well. You can look up everything from long lost relatives, to latest episode of your favorite TV show that was just on. You can even trade stocks or file taxes online. However as much as our personal lives have changed, the business world has revolutionized almost beyond recognition in the past few decades. Advances in communication and information technology have changed the face and the pace of business. Whatever can speed up production can and will draw in more business. As computers emerged in the 20th century, they promised a new age of information technology. But in order to reap the benefits, businesses needed to adapt and change their infrastructure.

Information technology was the core element of the turnaround of Union Pacific Railroad. Through much of the 80’s and 90’s Union Pacific faced a massive struggle to maintain its domination in the railroad industry.
