Week 12 Homework

Takt Time ad Cycle Time
a) Compute the takt time required for a system where the total time per shift is 480 minutes, there are two shifts, workers are given (2) 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch. Daily demand is 300 units. The process required to make a unit consists of 5 steps; Stamping (40 seconds), Trimming (30 seconds), Sizing (30 seconds), Polishing (40 seconds) and Packing (30 seconds).

480 minutes – 60 minutes for breaks/lunch = 420 minutes/ 300 = 1.4 minutes per unit. However, it takes 2 minutes and 50 seconds to make one with the current process so it is not feasible.

b) Compute the cycle time for a system consisting of 5 steps; Stamping (40 seconds), Trimming (30 seconds), Sizing (30 seconds), Polishing (40 seconds) and Packing (30 seconds). The total time worked per shift is 480 minutes, there are two shifts, workers are given (2) 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch. Daily demand is 300 units.

170 seconds per unit

c) Given the above information can the company meet the daily demand?

No, it will take 2.83 minutes to complete the task and the required takt time to meet demand is 1.4 minutes per unit

Flowchart
Here is the scenario – it is a Saturday morning – you wake up late due to a late Friday night at the library where you were working on your MGT 370 project (dare I dream?). You crave your favorite breakfast but there is none to be found in your house. You have to leave your house and pick up and fix your favorite breakfast. Skipping breakfast is not an option. Create the “favorite breakfast process map” using time as a quantitative assessment. I will accept a photo from your phone of the finished flowchart for this assignment as long as it is legible.
