Process Paper We had made our decision on doing our project on Helen Keller was because we have both been influenced by her from back in elementary school- when we first learned about her. She was one of the people that showed us not to judge people by what they look like or some of their defects. Jen and I had done some research on our own for the first month. Then we had met up at the Mt. Royal Library one afternoon after school. Doing this we each checked out a few books, and took notes from them. For the next couple of weeks we had done a lot of research on the internet. Some of our sources were from afb.org, the American foundation for the blind. Marta had trouble finding information specifically on her world speaking, so she checked out a autobiography from the Duluth Public library. By January 20 we had both found all of the pictures needed for our projects, all we needed to do then were write out the paragraphs Marta and I did not have a clue how to do a web page, and we are not the best actors. Documentary didn’t seem the most appealing to us so then we decided to make a poster board. Marta had went to Michael’s and bought a blue board. We chose to do a blue board because water is the color blue. Annie had made a huge breakthrough with Helen when she taught her that every word had a meaning. She did so with putting water into Helens hand and then spelled out the word W-A-T-E-R into her hand. Instantly Helen knew what the word meant. This is what gave us the idea for a blue board. Next we printed out our title letters and traced out a circle around each letter so that the title would be in bubble letters. Marta ran out of colored paper to layer the text on the board so Jen went to Michael’s and got some more. In the mid 1800’s, educational opportunities for blind and deaf people were limited.
