Why did the Whitechapel murders attract so much attention in 1888?

In the late nineteenth century the gruesome and vile murders which took place by a serial psychopath killer attracted much attention in Whitechapel due to many factors rather than one. There were a number of reasons for why the murders of the Whitechapel caused so much attention such as the nature of the victims, the role of the media, the nature of the murders, along with the fascination with the macabre, the social and political changes in addition to how the area white chapel itself was. All these factors led to the fascination of the individuals which lived within Whitechapel and out which created much attention.

One of the most important factors which played a role in creating much attention was the role of the media, where it was a mass market business particularly because of the education act enforcing school to become compulsory for children up to the age of fourteen years. The media attempted to make profit anyway they could by exaggerating, creating hoaxes etc. however the media could only gain profit from wealthy individuals which could read and buy newspapers. The media soon began realising this problem so they produced detailed illustrations of the horrifying murders which took place by Jack the Ripper to present the murders to people who had no education and therefore could not read. The media sold newspapers daily to their customers so they could keep earning profit most of this was from articles rumoured written by either the murderer or possibly a journalist harassing the police force. The media gave the murderer an identity with the name of jack the ripper however another letter was sent to the police force from hell which rejected the identity given by force however the media claimed that the ripper was suspected of being a Jewish named leather apron who had a bad reputation with prostitutes however this was only one possibility, the media also believed from many peoples...
