Employment at will
The scenarios that are listed below are some example of everyday problems that might surface as employees. I will assess what solution could be done or to use to resolve the situations.
The at will employment is a term used in labor law in which an employee can be fired by an employer for any cause , and without warning longs as that employee is told they will be hired as being at will, the employee have no legal grounds to file suit against that employer.
John posted a rant on his Facebook page in which he criticized the company’s most important customer.
In this case, I would look and see if the employee was using the internet at work for personal use and in if John was this is the first violation of use of company property or if the use their personal device this will still be a misuse of company time. Being the COO I would have a zero tolerance or disrespect to customers. This act John has did make the company look like it doesn’t respect its customers. I will not let John explain why he did the rant because as part of the company we have values and have standards and John show the world that he don’t live by the company standards. I would suspend John without pay for two weeks to make a statement to the rest of the employees, but I will show john the employee hand book so that next time he violates he will be terminated.
Jim sent an email to other salespeople protesting a change in commission schedules and bonuses and suggesting everyone boycott the next sales meeting.
In this case I would immediately call Jim into my office and let him know that this need to stop because this will cause a big distraction in the office and the work place may become hostile environment. I wouldn’t mind the emails for he have his right to think what he want but I will hold Jim reliable for any hostile action cause from his thoughts.
