In a time where businesses lacked a basic organizational method, two men changed the way organizations work in order to make the process a more systematic and effective. The classical organizational theory changed sometime during the early 1900’s, or the first half of the 20th century. The theory stands for administrative and bureaucratic theory along with the merger of scientific management. At the turn of the century, a man named Frederick Taylor developed a theory, which at the time was known as Taylorism. He developed this theory in the year 1917. There were 4 principles that were basic to his theory, they were known as: 1) Find one best way to perform a task, then 2) thoughtfully align a worker to each task, then 3) supervise employees, and establish a punishment and a reward according to the work that they produce, and finally 4) leave the task of controlling and management to planning.
In the beginning of his new theory known as Taylorism, he started off successful in his productions. He was initially successful considering that his methods involved continuously choosing the best people for each job, and to ensure that only the best equipment was made available. After doing so, he would carefully keep a watchful eye on all components of the production process. By keeping his attention focused on each type of task in an individual manner, he was able to see what worked, and what didn’t work within his company therefore allowing for certain ups that lead to enormous increases in production within the organization.
Although Frederick Taylor’s theory of Taylorism held well during the beginning of the century, at a time when the industrialized companies were still very simple; his scientific management theory was not successful as time passed into more modern organizations and companies.
