The technology revolution has swept the nation. It has not spared the criminal justice system. In fact, it has given the criminal justice system more work. Like any other public or private agency in the business world, the criminal justice system as a whole has to keep up with new technology in order to prevent and deter crime. Technology changes from day to day but regardless the criminal justice system must stay up to date with its advances. Also, computer and telecommunications technologies in criminal justice system have developed at an extraordinary rate. Increased computing power, advances in data transmission and attractive and user-friendly graphic interfaces present law enforcement agencies with unprecedented capacity to collect, store, analyze and share data with stakeholders inside and outside of government. Computers are a way of life. Citizens use computers for many transactions. They place their personal information on the internet for multiple reasons. Criminals have caught up with and are now committing crimes through the use of the internet. They hack peoples’ computers and steal their identities. Many citizens have become victims via the internet and now the criminal justice system to intervene (Freeman, 2006). In order for the criminal justice system to be able to catch criminals of cyber crimes, they must stay on top of technology.
People have an idea of how law enforcement works but rarely ever think of how much technology affects it, and how much it keep their family and their self safe. The world changes every single day so consequently law enforcement has to keep up, for example 30 years ago there were no such things as cyber crimes but today there are all new laws and technology to prevent and protect against these crimes.
