The Film ‘A Clockwork Orange’ is a Stanly Kubrick classic from the early 70’s and revolves around psychology as we follow the main character through his adolescence. ‘A Clockwork Orange’ is based solely on John B Watsons psychological theories of Behaviorism, specifically Classical Conditioning, and shows us the process of conditioning a violent human being into a peaceful one.
A Clockwork Orange is based somewhere in England and follows the life of a young man named Alex. Alex is an ambitious, Violent, intelligent person, who thrives on causing trouble, and is drawn to violence. At the beginning of the film, we follow him and his 3 friends on what appears to be a normal night out on the town. They began by beating a town drunk lying in the gutter viciously with chains and bats, then after coming across a rival gang, they provoke a fist fight and begin a five on four brawl that ends with them fleeing from the cops, and last of all to end the night, they come across a residence in the middle of nowhere, and trick the woman of the house to let them in. When inside, they beat the husband until he is crippled from the waist down and tie him up, rob and wreck the house, and before they leave, Alex rapes the mans wife right in front of him. After all of this Alex and his droogs disperse, and he proceeds home. After a day of skipping school and meeting with his probation officer, he and his droogs meet up and have an argument about the leadership of the group, angered by this, Alex proceeds to throw one of them (Dim) in a canal and then cuts Dim to prove a point of where he stands as the leader. The others don’t take this action too kindly and set a trap for Alex. They ensure him of a house filled with priceless art with only one female resident, a perfect robbery.
