A Journey To The Depths of Being
It all started many months ago in a small suburban town in northern Michigan. David was your typical middle-class college student; the son of a wealthy lawyer and a nurse. Ever since he was a child David had been raised to pursue the virtues of suburban life; hard work, stability, and family. The deepest longing of David’s parents was to see him succeed in life, which in their minds meant a solid career and a comfortable bank balance. David however had often felt trapped and alienated by his parent’s rigid expectations of him. Though he outwardly embraced these virtues, inside he felt that he was missing out on something profound, though what exactly this was continued to elude him.
As he walked the long winding sidewalks of his cozy suburb this feeling of emptiness began to overtake him. It was a beautiful summer day, the glistening rays of light illuminating the landscape of well-kept grass and concrete. David’s parents have never liked Anthony, and hated the idea of their son hanging out with him. Anthony was known for his less than stellar grades and his increasingly frequent absenteeism. The idea of academics never sat well with Anthony, and he only went to college to ward off the belligerent pressuring of his parents. He was known as the “bad kid”, the go to guy for marijuana and anything else an American college student may want, but he was also known for his eccentricities and his mellow attitude. David was certainly the farthest thing from one of the “bad” guys, but he found something in Anthony quite sublime and powerful, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on....
