How is this student’s behavior academically dishonest?
Well we all go through hard times and most of us older students have children and things do come up in our busy schedule. But cheating is cheating and I know we all think it’s not right and she shouldn’t be in school or maybe drop out. But I’m a realist so with respect to Maria it was dishonest especially in the online learning experience but it happens.


Is it ever acceptable to use someone else’s work as your own?
I don’t think it’s ever ok to take another persons work and use it as your own.


What should this student have done in this situation?
I think time management would of help Maria in this situation. Time management is key in online learning, its easy to get distracted and find things to do thinking you’ll make it in time when you know your really not. Planning your day and scheduling will help anyone survive their online learning experience. I would have advised Maria as a dear friend to look into getting a journal and some time management examples.


What consequences could she face if it was found that she did this?
I’m pretty sure a lost of points and probably a warning would be right on target nothing to harsh. If it’s a repeated situation I would think maybe taking the course over and a fail grade, but I’m all about chance and I sometimes believe people need that extra push to be positive, not be thrown away but that’s just me and how I view society.
In what ways might others be negatively impacted by this student’s dishonest behavior (e.g., other students, the instructor, the university, or her children)?
