A Real Hero Throughout history there have been many kinds of heroes. When someone mentions the word hero, most people’s thoughts automatically jump to fictional characters such as Superman and Spiderman. Few people will think of someone more realistic. A real hero is someone like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus Finch has many important traits that show how he is not just another average human being. Some of these traits include his attitude on equality, his modesty and respect for others, and his determination coupled with an indomitable spirit. A more in depth analysis of these traits will show how these qualities were uncommon, especially before the Civil Rights Movement. One reason Atticus is a real hero, is his attitude on equality. Throughout the book he has always been fair to everyone. Judge Taylor picked Atticus to defend Tom Robinson for a good reason. He knew that Atticus would be one of the few people to give Tom a fair trial, and actually try to defend him. Another example of Atticus’s attitude on equality is when Scout brings homes a Cunningham. Atticus tries to make Scout understand that the Cunningham’s are good people, even if they can’t pay him in cash. This is one of the qualities that make Atticus no ordinary person. Finally, Atticus Finch is a real hero because of his determination and indomitable spirit. Atticus shows his determination and spirit many times throughout the novel. One example of this quality is when he is selected to be Tom Robinson’s lawyer. He knows that because the jury is prejudiced, it will turn into a classic black verse white case. He also knows that in these cases the white man always wins. His determination and indomitable spirit, in spite of what he knew would eventually end up happening, shows courage. As Atticus once said, "Courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” This shows that Atticus Finch is a remarkable person....
