Be Careful Who You Work For
Some people think they have it bad where they work. I bet if they spent one day with my old boss Mike their mind would change. This guy Mike was crazy for a number of reasons; first of all he smoked crack on the job, never had the proper safety equipment required for roofing and even would do jobs without the licenses required by the city and state! There is no way I could tell you about all the adventures I had during the time I worked with him, but I can give you an idea of what it was like.
I worked with Mike doing roofing, remodeling and demolition during the summer of 2005. I made ok money but he was an incompetent boss. He was a big time crack head that would put his business and employees in jeopardy buy smoking crack on people’s roofs while we were working! I remember a time he got so high he fell off a roof; broke his foot and didn’t realize it until the next day! The result of that was another employee and I was out of work for about a week until he could work again.
Another big problem with that job was the lack of safety harnesses and proper tools for the job. Every time we had materials delivered for a job by another company we would have trouble getting the delivery men to help us unload because they didn’t want to get fined by the city. It’s a big deal not to have employees equipped with safety equipment. If a city worker happens to drive by and see that they can enforce sanctions like fines or even court dates. If you are caught doing something against regulation multiple times you can even have your business license revoked.
When it came to business licenses, he didn’t have one. That’s probably why he seemed to not care about losing it. When I found out he didn’t have one it started to make a lot more since why he would pay me in cash. I didn’t have a problem with it because it was tax free money in my pocket, but I didn’t like how fraudulent the business was ran. Even...
