Extra credit on “What is a man? What is a woman?” While watching the Barbra Walters show about the pregnant man, I found myself being really freaked out. Even though I was freaked out, I felt really bad for them. They were just trying to have a normal family and be accepted. It is kind of weird that Thomas was a woman and still has women parts, but also has a manly parts and looks like one too. People were so freaked out to that he had a baby, even though he was not the first. Other women who have had sex changes to men have decided to have children still. The others that had children just chose not to make it public. I do understand Thomas’s family reason for making the pregnancy public. People were going to find out one way or another. If I was in their place I would much rather tell them my story, than them making it up. The people would have made awful rumors about him. However, he told the people his story, but many did not agree with him at all. Some called his baby an abomination. When in reality, he is basically a woman that looks like a man. He has all the womanly reproductive organs still. People would not have thought anything of it if he was just a manly woman having a baby. When I first say pictures of how he was pregnant, I just thought it was a publicity stunt. I did not believe it at all. After I started to realize it is real and listen to his story, I thought it was sweet to do that for his family. I did a very courageous thing. He gets death threats all the time on his own private phone line. I just do not think it is fair to him to have to go through all that. Also the gay community thought it gave homosexuals a bad name. I think it makes him look stronger. Not many people would have to guts to tell people he is pregnant when he knew people would not agree with him. I just do not think it is fair to him. He is just another person like us.
