Compare and Contrast the English Relationship and the French Relationship with the Native Americans.

Although the French and the English shared the common goal of colonizing the new world, they came about it differently. The Native Americans lived in the new world before the Europeans had explored and discovered its existence. To meet their goals, the French and the English had to deal with the Native Americans. Each country dealt with them very differently. Unlike the harsh ways of the English, the French were more tolerant with the natives. The way each country dealt with the natives had an effect on each country as well.
While the English were there for colonization and land, the French wanted to get rich and leave. Their interest was the fur trade. Rather than throwing the natives off of the land and conquering them, the French learned techniques that lead to their fur trade that made them very profitable. The French did not wish to eliminate the natives, or use them as slaves, in fact, they tried to befriend them instead of taking advantage of the land themselves. Even though they did their best to introduce western civilization to natives, the French allowed them to keep their language and cultures. The French were also interested in the native's culture and customs. The French built a relationship that led to the natives being guides and working with the French. This is why the war between the French and the English in the mid 18th century is referred to as the French and Indian War. The Indian tribes were allies of the French. The French worked wit the natives and used them as trackers, scouts, and soldier. Their knowledge of the land and how to fight in it played a big role in the war than their actual involvement in battles.
The English had no respect or kindness for the Native Americans of the New World. Far from respecting the Native Americans right to land, freedom, and health, the British did not even recognize the Native Americans as people.
