CASE STUDY
Barrister James was so angry. He had been had been told at exactly twelve noon to prepare report on the financial status of his division of the company in preparation for the twelve noon meeting of the board of directors the next day. On his way home from work, some idiots rear-ended him at a stop light and damaged his newly purchased car.
When he got home from work, he received a message from his wife telling him that she won't be able to come home in time to cook dinner for the children, so he would have to do the cooking. At dinner, his twelve-year son revealed that he had flunked his mathematics exam that afternoon. After he had finished dinner with his children, he went to the study to work on the report. The children had the T.V. set so loud that he couldn't concentrate, he yelled at the children to turn off the T.V. set, but they couldn't hear him. Furious, he stalked into the family room and began yelling at the children about the television and anything that cae to his mind.
Then, suddenly, he began to feel a tremendous pressure on his chest, as if a truck were driving across it. Pain shot through his chest and down his left arm. He felt dizzy, terrified and collapsed on the floor. His seven-year old daughter began screaming while his twelve-year old son called for help from neighbours. He died before getting to the hospital.
Barrister James had a myocardial infarction- a heart attack. A myocardial infarction is one endpoint of cardiac disease or coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD occurs when the blood vessels that supply the heart are blocked by plaque, thus blocking the flow of blood and nutrients to the heart.
