Counseling

The most basic lesson taught in the military from day one of reception is the importance of respect and obeying orders. This lesson becomes second nature throughout basic training, from rifle drills, PT, drill and ceremony, to basic every day commands. The old saying of “jump” and response of “how high”, contrary to outside belief is not what the military trains its military man and women. The proper response to “jump” is the immediate response and the person or persons without hesitation, to jump. The reason for such an immediate reaction to a given command is so that in a situation that a when a decision requires a time sensitive response, that order/command will be acted on promptly, thus immediate results will occur.
In a time of war it is paramount to have control over all aspects of a group. The military thrives on battle drills, rehearsals, and constant checks and balances. A chain of events is triggered with a single order; this order will pass from word of mouth, memos, e-mails, radios, etc. In order for this command to be disseminated in a timely manner and properly it must be enacted upon without question from ranks. The chain of events that the military establishes that are set to happen will fail however if one person within that link fails to follow an order or questions a command. Ultimately a break in the chain can result to failure, with any number of results, worst being loss of life of a fellow soldier. The Army values of LOYALTY- “Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, your unit, and other soldiers”, along with DUTY- “Fulfill your obligation” and RESPECT- “treat others as they should be treated” these are instilled into all soldiers to help support the role and mind set to obey all orders and respect those appointed over you.
