This first year of high school has gone by flying! I still can’t believe the school year is almost over. This freshman year I met six incredible people they were my teachers. Each one of them has taught me something new throughout the year. It went from math, to science, English, to health, and mandarin. Each subject and each specific thing I have learned in school has taught me something new about the real world of life. I learned that math isn’t just used in school you also use math in cooking. I also learned you don’t just use English in writing but you have it in poetry, in songs, and even in speeches. In my health and biology classes I learned they don’t only reflect on how life is but on how you make many choices to make your life useful. The last thing I learned this year was that mandarin has a hard way of understanding. There are many tricks to the language and it’s so different from speaking English in many ways. Throughout the year I have learned different ways of utilizing what I learn in school in the real world of life.
My favorite class this year has to be math. In math I see people using math in restaurants. Restaurants involve both math and food, therefore food also involves math. Having a restaurant is a challenge for people because when you start not many restaurants make it to the second year of business. When you have a restaurant you need to calculate the percentage of money you will need to invest in to start off your business. You have to think about the food you will make and estimate how much time it will take to cook, and also how much food you will actually sell. Another way math is used in this area is in recipes. You have to know how to cook your food and follow the instructions, how much you will put of flour or how many eggs. You could also calculate how food tastes better if cooked in a certain way.
