What is Ethics?



Introduction
Some people may ask “What is Ethics”? Ethics deal with having the knowledge to do what is right or wrong. If a person does not demonstrate good ethics then it can hurt and bring down a business or cause problems within a business. There may be different types of ethics but I am going to focus on three main types. Those types are professional, business, and work. I did not know there were different categories of ethics. There are also different roles of ethics which consist of manager, organization, and employee. When ethics is not practiced in the workplace then ethical dilemmas can occur.
Review of the Literature
Ethics refers to the standards of right and wrong of what humans should do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics also refers to those standards that impose the reasonable obligations to refrain from rape, stealing, murder, assault, slander, and fraud. Ethical standards include those that enjoin virtues of honesty, compassion, loyalty, standards relating to rights such as the right to life, the right to freedom from injury, and the right to privacy (www.scu.edu).
Pozgar, 2013, stated the following:
Ethics is the branch of philosophy that seeks to understand the nature, purposes, justification, and founding principles of moral rules and the systems they compromise. Ethics deals with values relating to human conduct. It focuses on the rightness and wrongness of actions, as well as the goodness and badness of motives and ends. It involves how individuals decide to live with in accepted boundaries, principles, and values and how we live in harmony with the environment and one another. (p. 2)
Ethics is studied so we can be taught to make the right decision in certain situations. If ethics is not taught in the workplace then there may be outstanding consequences that can lead to...
