Assigned Learning Scenario of Nia:
Nia is a “nontraditional student “that is doing college online. Her life is not overwhelmed with a family like the other students Dan and Cassie. Nia served in the military so she has the ability to multitask as described she is “ a force to be reckoned with.” Nia has the latest technology at her new desk and she is having trouble understanding her assignments. But she is a driven student but this makes her, not an intentional learner, by trying to do the assignments herself.
What Nia could have done to be more successful, and use her Learning Patterns more Intentionally:
1. Instead of skimming the materials and drawing her own conclusion she should have read it thoroughly and then she would have a better understanding of what the instructor was asking her to do. She should have never started her assignment unless she knew what was asked of her.
2. Nia using her Use First Sequence pattern and Precision makes her not be successful. Nia completed her assignment as fast as she could, instead, she should have used her metacognitive skills by forging patience and determination, doing this she would have taken her time on her assignment and understood what she had to do.
3. Nia was advised by her instructor to re-read her assignment and double check her spelling and grammar, instead chose not to, and with her confidence in her work, she handed it in. Nia didn’t take the time to mull her assignment by doing this she isn't going to be an intentional learner. Nia could have applied her patterns and used a combination of use first patterns and avoid patterns , but it comes with a challenge to tether her Use First pattern of Precision and Sequence. By tethering, she could have gained perspective and gained knowledge of the assignment and prevent her from doing the wrong things. Learning her strategies would give Nia choices in learning and give her a sense of accomplishment.
