P2- outline how legislation, policies and procedures relating to health, safety and security influence health and social care settings
In this essay I will be discussing about what is, legislations, policies, procedures and code of practice in health, safety and security in health and social care. Also I will be giving examples on these terms on relation to health and social care settings, what does this legislation do.
Legislation- a law or set of laws made by a government and made official by a parliament. Legislation shows the governing legal principles outlining the responsibilities of care worker, and other stakeholders such as the local authority, to protect the safety of the public. The sweeping legislation made radical changes to tax law, health care, and immigration law. For example, a bill is a draft, or tentative version, of what might become part of the written law. A bill that is enacted is called an act or statute.
Health and safety at work act (HASAW) 1974-
As everyone knows that UK (United Kingdom) has one of the lowest accidents rates in the world. The health and safety work Act 1974 is one of the main reasons for this. When the governments of UK brought this legislation it been an improvement made in health and safety workplace. Health and safety act been since 30 years of the life time in UK. Even though, over 200 people re killed each year at work in the UK and over 150,000 are injured. Believe me about two million people suffer from illness that have been caused, or made worse, by their work. This legislation also applies to Scotland as well as England, Wales and Northern. There are many bits of legislation and different guidelines that you have to work within, as a health and social care worker.
