Since I enjoy interacting with infiants i found this assignment particuarlly fun! The three different activities that I chose are; peek-a-boo games, crib gyms, and blocks. You know that peek-a-boo games are successful because they has been around for ages. This game allows the infant to become aware of how facial expressions reflect human emotions. If you display an angry face you will receive a frightened reaction; if you smile you will receive a laugh.Normally if a reaction is not given you know something could possibly be wring in the infants development. Infants are also able to recognize importnat faces in their lives. The crib gym is interaction between the infant and the dangling objects. Usually the infant will touch the object because the movement is stimulating. Another reason why gym cribs are important in development is the infant is able to feel different textures. If there was a doll hanging the infant could recognize the proper features on a face. Colors also draw a lot of attention and are very stimulating. Lastly, building blocks is a great activity for infants. Spacial relationships are important to an infant. Other lessons learned are; visual and auditory discrimination (blocks make noises when they fall). If you keep stacking blocks eventually they will fall, this concept is cause and effect. Infants are allowed to make create different structures by using different shaped blocks. All of these activities are equally stimulating to an infant. All three are successful, I know this because I have witnessed infants ingaging in these exercises. In some cases I think the biggest part to making sure an infant is learning is stepping back and letting them take full control. I think that texture and colors with the gym cribs and blocks make a difference in the way an infant will react to the activity.
