What would democracy be without free press? In my opinion, free press is essential to the health of a democracy. A free press is a system that ensures the representation of the government by its people. A free press is offered to tell the truth about the government and this gives the people of their country the power to hold the government accountable. It prevents any kind of overruling or tyranny of the government and a true democracy in which the people truly rule the country. Free press helps the public know about the truth of their government, educates them on issues so they can make the right decisions, and to create new ideas that benefit the country in many ways. These examples are the cornerstone of our union. Without them, a true democracy would fail.
A democracy is defined as a government that is run by the people or by the elected representatives that they choose. The government makes decisions and actions that the public should know about such as passing a new bill or declaring a war. This kind of information is released through the president, himself, on the radio, television, newspapers, and the internet. Currently, the U.S. and most of the world is going through an economic crisis. President Obama posted his idea for a new stimulus plan on the internet and it was also discussed about on the news. Releasing this information keeps the public updated on their financial needs.
Free press is defined as a mass media that is not limited or censored by the government politically or ideologically. The main goal of free press is to inform the people of issues in and around the country. This allows people to make informed decisions on who their elected officials should be, since these people will represent their ideas to the government.
