What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons. Stereotyping is when one person dislikes a group of people because of aparticular reason. To be prejudice a person shows no feelings, and has unreasonable attitudes, and opinions towards certain groups. I think that to show discrimination and to be prejudice show the same concept. They both show unfairness to others because of their race, religion, and or gender. Discrimination differs from stereotyping because when you are stereotyping someone its based off of a feeling towards someone else. For example: If a women is robbed by a tall darkskinned male with long braided up hair, then every tall darkskin male she sees will not be liked based off of that one incident.

What are the causes of discrimination?

There are many actions that lead up towards discrimination. Fear, stereotyping, ignorance, media, and other influential groups. Everyone has their own background in which they came from. Media plays a major role when it comes down to people creating judgment towards the next person. Media creates certain images where many believe if your not following the image, then you are some what different and do not belong. Being ignorant or uneducated can lead to discrimination. For example media has made people of mental illness, and who are violent to be addressed as schizophrenia. Because of the lack of public knowledge, people end up discriminating and changing there behavior toward everyone who is mentally ill.

How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability)...
