Function of Management Paper
The purpose of this paper is an attempt to explain the function of management.
The function of management is to make decisions, allocate resources, and direct
the activities of others to attain organizational goals.
Planning establish a strategy to achieve goals. Develop a comprehensive set of plans to integrate and coordinate activities. For example, assembly of electronic heaters, in the planning stage you must know the cost of making the heater for allocation of funds. “What materials are needed to make the heater?” “What is the cost to purchase the materials?” “ How long will it take to assemble the heater?” “How many people will it take to make the heater?” “ How many man hours will it cost?”
Organizing, assembling, and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources to achieve: “What tasks are to be done?” “ Who will do them?” “How the tasks are grouped?” “ Who reports to whom?” “Where decisions are to be made?.”
Leadership role is motivating employees to be high-performers, by selecting the most effective form of communication and directing the activities of the employees to achieve organizational goals.
Controlling involves learning and changing to ensure that things are going the as they should in the production process. Monitoring performance and implementing necessary changes. If there are any significant deviations managements job is to get the organization back on track.
The four functions of management is at every level of management for the purpose of analysis and study. Top-management has the responsibility for total organizational performance covering multiple business activities. Middle-management do not have responsibility for more than one type of business activity, and maybe responsible for one segment of the total work in the organization.
