Between comparative and absolute system, which one is more applicable in measuring behaviours.Explain.
There are two types of system used in measuring behaviours ; comparative sytems and abolute systems.Comparative systems based on measurement on comparing employees with each other whereas absolute systems evaluate employees’ performance without making reference to other employees but compares employees with pre-specified standard.
In my opinion, the absolute systems is more applicable in measuring behaviours.Under absolute systems, there are several types of methods that used rating scales to measure behavior such as graphic rating scales, behavior checklist and behaviorally anchored rating scales.Rating scales work as a general system.It is applicable in most situation especially in measuring behavior, appraisals and assessments.Therefore, it will facilitate the rater in measuring behavior since it can be created for almost anything by only altering a rating scale slightly. All methods in absolute systems also provide clear quantification of performance which make them very applicable in measuring behavior.
One of the characteristic of the absolute systems is it provide feedback to employees regarding their performance.As for example, by using essay method, employee are able to know their strengths and weaknesses which employer provide in the essay.Besides that, rating scale also often have a column or space for providing additional feedback. However, under comparative systems, the system only focused on measuring behavior by comparing one behavior to other employees.The comparison between one another only focus on one overall single category instead of in terms of specific behavior.This situation produce less useful feedback for employees to use for the future improvement and it is not applicable in the organization that emphasize on development of career for their employees.In addition, force distribution method also not applicable to a company which are...
