Puritan Religion
Religion can affect people in many ways if their lives. Some of the ways in how it can affect people is how they think, how they live their life, and also just the decisions they make that decides who they are as a person. The Puritan’s had their own view on how they looked at religion; theirs were a little different than ours in today’s world.
The puritan’s believed that all sinners were dammed to hell no matter how big or little the sin is because sin well its sin. For instance the like in the Scarlet Letter Hester Prynne committed adultery and the community or town tortured her and basically shammed her in front of everyone. Also because of their beliefs because of the sin she committed she was dammed to hell. They also believed that God had sent Christ to save particular people, when compared to now her saves people who accept him. In the Scarlet Letter everyone in the town really committed a sin but the way they look at it the little sins aren’t the same as a bigger sin such as well adultery. Those beliefs made them behave badly towards Hester and her daughter because of the sin Hester committed. Even though they saw little sins not as equal as others but at the same time the townspeople were also committing a sin by torturing and treating Hester and her daughter Pearl with no respect.
The Puritans’ believed or thought that a contract existed between God and humanity, which they thought was the model for social organization. Also they believed that they should enter freely into concernments with their governments. I think the real reason that people’s beliefs affect their behavior is that they hate being wrong. People see religion as just something that you have or just to say that they are religious just so people will leave them alone. Like the townspeople in the Scarlett Letter they probably all knew that they were committing a sin when they did that to Hester or even when they were living but since she got caught they covered up...
