Throughout history there have been many different forms of power. Some different forms of power include religious power, economic power, power of geography, and many other forms of power. One specific power is the power of the military. One of the most powerful militaries was the Roman Military.
The Roman Military was in control for hundreds of years. They were well organized, well trained, and strong. The most powerful aspect of the Roman Military lay in the infantry. The Roman Military was believed to be the first professional army. They used their power to conquer much of the Mediterranean. Many different factors contributed to the collapse of the Roman Empire, but one major aspect was the military. First off all, during the later years of control, a large part of the Roman Military was made up of barbarian trained soldiers. These soldiers were untrained and uneducated, which made winning a battle harder. Along with the barbarian soldiers, a big problem was enrollment into the military was low. Many people of Rome that were supposed to serve in the military signed their slaves up to serve for them. As you can imagine, the slaves didn't fight hard because they didn't care about Rome at all.
Other militaries have been influenced by the Roman Military. One major quality that many militaries have taken from the Romans is organization. Just like in militaries today, the Roman Military was very disciplined. Being disciplined allowed commanders to be confident in their troops when they gave a command.
The Roman Military was a very powerful force in history. Its impact lasted greater than just the few years after its decline. The Romans and their ways have influenced many different societies, even in today's world.
