Sinners in the hands of an angry god Jonathan Edwards talks a lot about god being angry. He implies that God will throw us in hell as soon as he gets the chance. He also says that “...the world would spew you out, were it not for the sovereign hand of him who hath subjected it in hope”. According to Jonathan, God “abhors” us and there is nothing we can do to save ourselves from God’s fury. Jonathan directs his words to the unconverted peoples in his church and the anabaptized. Even nowadays they teach in churches that if you don’t get your children baptized god will not let them into heaven. They also teach that if you don’t go to church you are dammed or that the devil has blinded you and you can’t see the correct path to walk on. Many churches teach that god is not angry with people only that he punishes people who don’t follow his word, the bible. They teach that God forgives those who deserve it or those who repent sincerely. As you can see the points of view are somewhat the same but different. Now Jehovah is letting us try to govern ourselves and make our own decisions. As the world can clearly see we are not doing a good job. Jehovah is not helping us so without his help we are just sinking our own ships. The world is to blame for whatever happens to it not god. 1 John 4:8 tells us directly god is love so a god of love would never cause us so much pain. Now here is something to keep in mind. A son has decided that he is not going to obey his father anymore and he goes off into the world without his father’s guidance. Now the father does not intervene with his sons’ decisions and the son...
