Rugby Union as a whole contributes to the economic value of sport positively in many different aspects. The economic value of sport contributes by business investments and employment in the sporting sector. The three sectors of the sporting industry; non-profit, private and public sectors all provide different types of benefits. The Queensland Reds do not have a private owner although they are still considered to be part of the private sector because of reasons explained below, however its important to know the private sector supports the least in comparison to the other two sectors. At the local level, Rugby Union assists by providing people with the opportunity to play sport, which in the long term reduces the funding that is required in the health care system. The public sector, which is the AIS Sevens program, helps improve the tourism industry as it is played internationally and at the Olympic games.

Sport comprises of three main sectors and these sectors assist the operations and conduct of sport in its entirety. The three comprise of the private sector, the non-profit sector and the public sector. The public sector also acknowledged as the State sector involves state, national, regional and local government to support and develop sport (Hoye, Smith, Nicholson, Stewart, & Westerbeek, 2009). An organisation from the sport of rugby union in this sector is the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Rugby Sevens team. The AIS was developed to identify outstanding talent in a particular sport, and develop the sport with the help of skilled coaches and world-class facilities and equipment. Rugby Sevens have there own series, which is played during the year, and Sevens is also played at the Olympics (Australian Institute of Sport, 2011).
