The new forms of technology enhances the communication capabilities in law enforcement agencies. The use of specialized databases by personal of the criminal justice system allows the personal to quickly and accurately accuse information. Technology used can vary from agency to agency; the databases used by your local police department may not be effective for federal agencies to use. With all the different forms of technology that can be used by law enforcement agencies it also come with its own privacy risks. Life Scan, facial recognition, AFIC, mobile data terminals and iris scans are just a few forms of technology used by law enforcement agencies that have improved the accuracy and effectiveness of communication. Throughout this paper we will compare the similarities and differences between live scan and the iris scan. Going over the positive and negative effects on the criminal justice system due to new technology. Discussing what new specialized form of technology that I would like to use which is the AFIS system and my reasoning for wanting to use this form of technology.
All the new technology that is used in the law enforcement agencies comes with its own privacy risks. All the new forms of technology creates the possibility that an individual’s personal information could be stolen or miss used. This is a negative aspect of all the new technology, but the positive effects the new technology has outweighs the risks. The government tells civilians that this technology is safe and secure and in no way used to watch over you or spy on the citizens of the United States. The facial recognition technology is an example of technology that could be used and stored on a database without you not even knowing it (Elbert, 2013).
