The Crucible
Which character changed over the course of the play? John Procter did by becoming a better person and standing up for what’s right. Proctor try’s to fix what has gone wrong with witchcraft in The Crucible by Arthur Miller.
John Proctor made a lot of right and wrong choices. The reason why he had right and wrong choices is because he never thought about what he was going to say or do he just did it. For example John said “I say- I say- god is dead!” and then gets arrested by the court.
Everything that had to do with witchcraft didn’t bother John tell his wife Elizabeth Proctor was taken to jail for being accused of a witch. Then getting his wife Elizabeth out of jail and fixing everything that has gone wrong with witchcraft was his motivation. He kept trying to find ways to fix everything.
John didn’t have a lot of options when trying to get his wife out of jail. All John had was Reverend John Hale, Giles Corey, and Mary Warren but only Mary could help him the most. Mary Warren promised John she would help get Elizabeth out of jail, and as she tried helping she was getting pressure put on her by the other girls starting to accuse her as a witch, and that made her start lying with the other girls by saying “I’ll murder you, he says, if my wife hangs we must go and overthrow the court he says!” that ruined everything for John.
After everything John tried to do he ended up being hung. John did not deserve that as his fate because he tried doing the right thing and doing what was right got him killed in the end. Even though john fate was not right he never stopped trying.
In the end even though John life was taken, and after all the things he went threw he never stopped doing the right thing and trying to fix what had gone wrong. John was always the better person.
