The renaissance took place roughly between the 1300 and 1600, it was known by many to be a time period of great change. The renaissance period became a turning point in history that marked the rebirth of humanism, setting a new viewpoint for people as they developed modern interests. At this time society had made a major transformation and peoples’ curiosity overcame their fear, causing many to explore and appreciate human interests. There was a great focus on the arts; literature, paintings, sculptures, and music were known to have progressed from the renaissance time.
During the renaissance came to be seen as a branch of knowledge and artists were beginning to display more artistic freedom and individualism, taking their artwork to another level. Artists began to base their artwork on the observation of the visible world and practiced according to mathematical principles of balance, harmony, and perspective, all developed at this time. Many new painters learned how to use shades of light and dark to create realism and the illusion of depth. This time period was responsible for the art of some of the greatest artists in history such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Piero della Francesca, Donatello, and many more.
Music made a major transformation as well throughout the renaissance period. Musicians like artists, displayed more artistic freedom and individualism in their work. Although previous to the renaissance time period music was sacred to worship and primarily used in church, there was a greater respect found and it was beginning to be appreciated in everyday life. Most composers focused their music on themes of religion and often used existing stories and texts to express their music. This time period was the first times that printed music was available, which allowed people of all backgrounds to learn and study musical pieces.
