Underage drinking we all try it at some point and time in our life, it could be when we are in high school at some party or moved out of your parents house either way its not good for you physically, mentally, or even emotionally. Each year, around 5,000 underage people die to alcohol related accidents, about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, about 1,600 from homicides, about 300 from suicides, and hundreds from random injuries. The biggest question I even asked myself is why do we drink underage knowing the risk if we get caught and what does it do to our bodies, what triggers the need of alcohol, what can drinking lead to? With these questions comes answers I didn’t know and are very knowledgeable to not only myself but to those who read this.
Why do we drink underage? This is the big question that there are many answers to. As we grow up and go through puberty we go through changes that can be physical, emotional, and even lifestyle changes. With these changes being made you are growing up and being handing responsibilities such as being responsible for your actions and being more independent. All of these changes that are being made can really be stressful or even painful which can lead to the use of alcohol. Another reason for underage drinking can be determined on how you view the effects of alcohol. Someone who drinks for pleasure of the effects of alcohol will drink more than someone that does not. Peer pressure can play a huge role in drinking underage, the average age for a male to have his first drink is 11, and I can bet peer pressure has a big role in this fact. Another good reason that can lead to underage drinking can be everything around you, from your TV, movies, music, and your friends and family can influence you to start drinking. When we get to high school, friends start pressuring us to drink. High school students see alcohol as something cool and a way to become popular.
