What is marriage?
“Social scientists have calculated that married people are healthier, wealthier, happier and more sexually satisfied than their single brethren” (Walljasper). Is that the reason that people are getting marriage? Are they entering into marriage seeking health, wealth or sex? If so, why are people still looking for their soul mate even it may take their whole life? When two people are deeply in love with each other, marriage is a promised of honoring, respecting, caring for each other for a whole life long. It is an unconditional union of two souls blended together. The spouses seal their love and commitment in a spiritual contract. And trust, sharing, responsibilities are the key to keep marriage successful and stable.
Not just only marriage but also any relationship is built based on trust and honesty. Most people are able to understand that love in the beginning is full of passion, romance, fire and flame. Living in separate homes gives each person enough freedom and the worries are usually few. And the fact is that there is very little shared responsibility between the couples makes life very easy for a couple when they are just dating. After a period of time, they will think the next natural step is to get married. Sometimes, only one partner truly wants to wed while the other feels fine the way things are. But they do not want to lose the relationship, so couples get married. Suddenly married with all sorts of new commitments and expectations the world gets difficult, such as: kids, finance, more responsibilities... “Love at first sight is easy to understand, it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle…” Amy Bloom.
