When beginning and ending a conversation, the normal thing to do is say hello, hi or how are you and good by or see you later. But what happens, when at the beginning of the conversation you say goodbye? Will the conversation never start or will that person just think that that was another rude act that humankind has picked up? What is it that makes us normal? Who is to determine or define what normal really is? According to OUR SOCIAL WORLD normal is defined as, “Rules or behavior shared by members of a society and rooted in the value system.” Normal is defined and determined by a group of people who have the same characteristics and beliefs as on another, it is what they accept in there day to day life.
While talking on the phone I decided to do a study on the action of people who got the unexpected reaction from me. One incident a lady called and said “hello my name is Kathy may I speak to Aneika Izeh?” I said goodbye this is she. The phone went quite for a couple of minutes and she said it once more and same for me. Again the phone went silent, and then she began to start talking about the product that she wanted to sell. We went on for about 5 minutes or so and, towards the end she asked if I had any questions. I said “no” and began asking her multiple questions about her product. This is when she asked me to please take this conversation a little bit more serious and if not she will just have to get off the phone. I once again said something out of the norm and then she hung up without a goodbye.
Another incident of me behaving out of the norm happened while I was shopping in the store. I was walking with a couple of friends; we were shopping for stuff for our room. Well apparently we weren’t the only ones shopping for our rooms. It was a couple days after school had started so the store was packed and the shelves were getting empty.
