W Sox Gear

Symbolism is defined as the practice of letting one thing represent another. Symbolism can be used in literature, movies, art and in real life. For me, practically my White sox gear is a bit of personal symbolism. White sox gear is a broad term that represents all my hats, jerseys, posters, cards ect. Being a fan of the white sox for me, is not only about wins and losses, it is about three very important outcomes of being a White Sox fan.

As a result of being a fan of the Sox, my father and I have a much better relationship. This is due to several reasons one of which is it gives us a topic to talk about for days. At holidays when I see him, we talk for hours about various topics such as era’s, personnel choices, Ozzie Guillen, and everything in between. Yet my father and I are not all talk and no action. Since I became a true fan we often go to the batting. There we share tips on our technique. Because of this, both of us have significantly improved. This would probably be due to the many times we go to the cages, which is about once a week for a year. Yet both of us know that we will have to practice a lot more to hit like our idle Jim Thome. But everyone knows that baseball is not all about hitting. So my father and I often toss in the yard when the weather is nice. Having my Dad be a Sox fan makes giving him a caring gift for Christmas a whole lot easier. For Christmas last year we exchanged jerseys. He gave me a Bobby Jenks jersey while I gave him a Jim Thome jersey. Yet of course most of the time when we hang out we watch the games together. When we do this we cheer and yell together. Over all being Sox fans has brought our relationship closer together.
While being a fan of the White Sox has built a stronger relationship with my Dad, I also have taken up playing softball. Seeing amazing plays by the White Sox players has inspired me to try and build my skills to be able to do such amazing feats. As a result, in the summer I decided to take up...
