SUMMARY OF CORRECTIONS CORP. OF AMERICA AND P.I.C.

P.I.C. and the Corrections Corp. of America basically work hand and hand. The Corrections Corp. owns and manages prisons and detention centers and operates others on a concession basis. They have 67 facilities with 92,500 beds. The P.I.C. helps maintain the authority of people who get their power through racial, economic, social and other privileges. They use images that keep alive stereotypes of people of color, poor people, queer people, immigrants, youth and other oppressed communities. Have you ever heard the phrase “They are trying to keep a brother down?” Well that is absolutely true. As long as all these groups are frowned upon, mistreated and basically led down the wrong path there will always be a profit for these two corporations. The P.I.C. will never paint a positive image of these groups because they would lose money. If no one feared people of color we wouldn’t be accused of so many crimes. The law states we are innocent until proven guilty but in the society we live in today I think it’s totally reversed. Being black on the other hand is the total opposite. The majority of us are poor and have little to no chance of advancing in life. I feel like we as blacks are set up to fail. When you live in poverty and that’s all you see I think you get use to it and you feel like there is no other way but to remain poor. I live in Compton and we have liquor stores on every corner, gang infested...
