Well, to begin this story I must first inform you that I, Zachery Taylor Proffer, was born in another country that is a far cry different than the United States in which I live now. I was born in the country of Jamaica, West Indies, in the township of St. Ann and left from the hospital soon after my big coming out party on the 15th of December in the year 1994.
I was soon taken home to a family that knows a little about raising children for they have 10 of their own and have helped to raise several others over the years. I got to be the baby of this small crew of a family. I got a little costumed to being spoiled and having all the attention of so many brothers and sisters. Little did I know at the time that this was just a pit stop for me because I was destined to be the new addition to a fine family in Missouri who thought, at the time, they had all the kids they were going to have as a family. I love surprises especially when I am the surprise in store.
I never will forget the first morning I was with them. They had traveled to Jamaica and arrived late at night, making it hard to see my beautiful little round, black face. I had lots of dark black curls that were long enough to pull into a ponytail and cheeks you couldn’t refuse to kiss. After a while of getting to visit with these strange aliens, I was carried to the car with them and went back to the resort where they had a baby bed set up just for me filled with warm, cozy blankets and lots of toys that made noises and lit up when I touched them. I would like to say that I enjoyed my bed, but unfortunately my new Mom and Dad to be would not leave me in my crib and decided I would be more comfortable lying between them in their king size bed. They were so right. I not only felt warm, but also felt the love they both smothered me with throughout the entire night.
