Am I Prejudice

Am I Prejudice

Am I Prejudice?
My view on prejudice is a simple one. I believe that everyone is naturally prejudice, and some people become worse and some people become better. In terms of being naturally prejudice, if you fill a room full of all different races, black, white, Asian, etc. you will notice that most every race will naturally divide to there common race. This does not mean that any of these people are prejudice or dislike the other race, but people surround themselves with whom they are comfortable with and in this case it is someone that shares the same race as them. Another good example of natural prejudice would be when I went to a middle school dance and all the girls were on one side of the gym and the boys were on the other side of the gym. Obviously the boys were not prejudice towards the girls but their comfort level was naturally on the boy’s side of the gym. So I do feel that there are natural prejudices that we all have, but I believe real prejudices is taught and learned over time.
Prejudice can be taught or passed down by our parents and their parents. If you grow up in a racist household there is good chance that you will be racist as well. For example, if your parents regularly use the terms nigger, chink, wet back, towel head, etc. as a child it will influence you in a negative way, because you will know that those are derogatory terms and that will reflect your views on those races. The same can be said for prejudice about sexual orientation, religion, and political views. For example, if your dad yells at the TV about the faggot democrat Jew, then you will obviously have a negative view towards gays, democrats and the Jewish religion. Obviously growing up in a household such as that, your likely hood of being prejudice towards those groups or races is high. However, with an open mind and self education an individual can make their own decisions towards what they feel is or is not prejudice.
