The story of Clinton Cuddington is one that would interest many artists and designers today. His ability to become a designer and architect in an already innovative and progressive-thinking world might be a difficult idea to come by in itself. From the beginning, Clinton has been able to have a vision for himself and his team at “Measured Architecture”. Working with city planning in developing initiatives with the city and being able to work on design panels as a notion of teaching the rules to build to others, are only some of the beginning steps of Cuddington’s work (Cuddington, 2012). Using his talent to go and pursue ‘Undesired’ projects, and those that are known to be ‘Aspirations + Desires’ (Cuddington, 2012). Clinton has created a client base that has become honestly interested in his work, design, portfolio, and creative process. This paper will dwell into the work of Clinton Cuddington at Measured Architecture, by showcasing his projects, determining their key design features, and analyzing the critiques of this modernist approach to contemporary design.
In one of his first and biggest projects, Clinton was able to create his own home for his family that would represent the kind of work Cuddington and ‘Measured Architecture’ would become known for. His idea was to develop a something that would be quite substantial, while forcing a relationship with the city (Cuddington, 2012). This is to be known as the ‘Wolfe House’ and a connection to the architectural world of builders, planners, peers, and many others involved in the housing development industry. Using forms and materials alike to the Shaughnessy neighborhood (Measured Architecture), Clinton and his design team embarked on what many have been presented as a branding to the public of “edgy and eco-minded” (Weder, 2010).
