CHAPTER III
                                             RESEARCH METHODOLOGY                               
 
A. Research Design
     This study utilized the descriptive method of research. This method gathers, describes and analyzes variables and presents relationship between them as it occurred in specific setting. It employed cross sectional study or socio demographic variables, level of perception about the NSTP.
    Data was gathered through survey and questionnaires and was organized and analyzed and shown in descriptive and statistical relationship.
 
B. Research Universe
     The target population included student nurses who were selected and identified through random sampling. In order to limit the homogeneity of the population, criteria was set by the researchers which is as follows: (1) They should be Level I B.S. Nursing students (2) they are currently enrolled in NSTP II with direct interaction with the community people.
 
     The Criteria no. 1 of being Level  I BSN students indicates that they have an adequate span of community exposure required to develop basic knowledge and skills in therapeutic interaction as student nurses because proficiency in Therapeutic Communication requires experience and time to mature before it become integrated into every communication act that we wish to be effective (Hein, 1980).
     On the criteria no 2, it is that the NSTP II student are the one who have community exposure.
 
C. Research Instrumentation
 
     The researchers utilized questionnaires to generate data for the study:
1.      Personal Information Sheet ' it is the Demographical Data Sheet which was constructed by the researcher to elicit factual information particularly about the name, age, gender, civil status, dialect, and educational background.
