The Christian foundation is based upon the belief that mankind is created in the image of God. This belief is essential to the Christian faith. Our thoughts, actions and reactions center round this teaching. Understanding this belief and how to implement it in to daily life as a school teacher can impact me as a person, teacher and Christian. A teacher is responsible for helping to develop and challenge a child’s Intellect and creativity. These gifts alone or combined are gifts from God.
The Bible leaves no doubt that God created the world and mankind. Genesis 1:1 states, “God created the heavens and the earth.” As we grow we learn more about the Bible and our own spirituality. We learn about this all knowing God, and his love for us. It is because of him that we are what we are. A career in elementary education gives me access to children in their developmental stages. As an educator, I am bound by specific duties and laws, encompassing guidelines and boundaries on specific subjects. With the separation of state and church, it is important that I represent my beliefs and strive to be the best Christian that I can be without infringing upon the guidelines set forth. Every person is made in the image of God, with their own unique spirit and purpose. As a teacher, I hope to bring out and help develop that uniqueness. Every life has a significant purpose. “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.” (Genesis 1:26) This statement shows that God created us in his image, and with the ability to relate to him and to others. We as individuals have the ability to think for ourselves. We have a sense of what is right and wrong based on our beliefs and the way we are raised. As an educator, I hope to instill good morals in my students, so that they will be able to decipher right from wrong.
