Abstract
Courting Disaster: How the Supreme Court is Usurping the Power of Congress and the People is authored by Pat Robertson. Mr. Robertson expounds on the increasing demise concerning today’s judicial system. Mr. Robertson believes today’s judicial system is destroying the balance of government power, that the Godly forefathers established and intended when the United Stated Constitution was birthed (Robertson, 2004). Robertson offers case examples and Biblical principles to support the actions of the judiciary that are spiraling this nation into destruction. Robertson can stand on a fair and firm foundation being an evangelist, an attorney, founder of the American Center for Law and Justice, and having served in the Marine Corps. He is adamant concerning the judges in courts today thinking that they are to make laws when the forefathers set forth clearly they are only to administer the law. The inequities in the courts have placed the value of checks and balances at risk by turning over the government to the country. Thomas Jefferson once cautioned that, “to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions” are “a very dangerous doctrine indeed” and “one that would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy” (Robertson, Courting disaster: How the supreme court is usurping the power of Congress and the people, 2004). This is an example of the direction the nation is going in and what needs to be done to climb back up the hill. Pat Robertson’s life verse is a great start for anyone; “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) (Robertson, M.G. "Pat" Robertson, 2014).
