What days and what times is the agency open?
- The VA hospital located in Loma Linda, CA is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The program I hope to get into for my field experience is called the STAR program. STAR stands for Substance Treatment And Recovery. STAR is open Monday through Friday from 0800-1600.
What type of assistance does the agency provide?
-Individuals will usually be housed at a local recovery home or may be approved to live at home while attending daily meetings at the VA Medical Center. Veterans placed at the recovery house will be on a government-housing contract for normally one month. After completion of Day Treatment, the outpatient program normally last eight months, starting with daily meetings while gradually decreasing to once a week therapy sessions. The outpatient program includes group therapy, couples and family groups, vocational counseling, volunteer work and involvement with Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous. Patients with stable home and job situations who do not need the full program can attend the weekly Relapse Prevention Group after staff assessment and
List the resources and some of the issues this agency has made available for marginalized populations, such as: homeless, literacy, tribal issues, teen issues, mental health, veterans' issues, runaways, and domestic violence referral.
- HUD-VASH and US Veterans made available for homeless veterans and their families. Puts them in an apartment, rent free or at a very low cost. PTSD therapy to full the extent, including other mental health treatments available.
