“Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong, love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth, it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) I believe those words, basically sum up the definition of having love towards your spouse and being true and honorable to each other. In the story Julius Caesar, Brutus has a wife named Portia who he believes is very true and honorable. I believe that there are three main characteristics to a true and honorable spouse, which are honesty, loyalty and protectiveness.
Being honest with your spouse is a big part of a relationship, if your relationship is based on lies how could it last? It would all be a lie. In my mind Portia did a good job displaying this trait in her character. Loyalty is also another important characteristic and is the main part of being “honorable.” Portia clearly displayed this trait in so many ways. For one in Act II, Scene 4 she complains that she has “a man’s mind, but a woman’s might.” Portia was talking when her husband shared his secrets with her; she had been given access to a man’s knowledge but because she is a woman she is unable to speak of it. Because she was loyal to her husband she couldn’t share this information; that is when she decided killed herself because she had too much...
