Coaching a New CEO for Transformational Leadership

Abstract
The role and responsibilities of a CEO is key and critical to any organization. It is not advised that any CEO should assume that position without some leadership coaching. Within the context of this paper, strategies and approaches are being offered in a coaching relationship to a young CEO who will be succeeding his uncle as CEO of the family business. The primary coaching strategies will include: a) the role of a CEO; b) establishing credibility; c) exemplifying the company values; d) improving productivity and performance; and e) empowering the employees as a CEO. In conclusion, a follow-up coaching session will be offered to evaluate the effective of the leadership coaching and the influence of the new CEO after one year.

In view of the case study involving the transition of a new Chief Executive Officer, it is important to understand the critical role a CEO has within an organization. The CEO is the spirit, the symbol and the state of being of the organization. As an external leadership coach, the opportunity has availed itself to coach this new CEO as he assumes his new role and responsibilities within the family-owned business. Within the context of this paper, various coaching strategies and approaches will be offered to the new CEO which will include: a) understanding the role of a CEO; b) practical guidelines to assist the CEO in establishing himself as a transformational leader with credibility; c) exemplifying the values of the company as a CEO; d) implementing creative steps to improve productivity and performance; and e) effective ways to empower employees as a CEO.
