Being in a conversation, we always think what or how we should say something. In relation to language and communications, we mainly think about the things that need to be said directly and clearly as precise as possible. Often times, people don’t realize what is being said from his or her own mouth to the point where the listeners couldn’t understand a thing. English language and other languages are bound to evolve due to technology and media to further languages usage, literacy and communication. People, especially students, are having a clearer communication because of social media and technology. Using like, in any form, is said to be useful in everyday conversation. Whether it is right or wrong to use it improperly, it still gives people the convenience while speaking. Communication in any form, doesn’t matter as long as the speaker is being understood clearly. This very idea refutes John Simon’s argument “...that if you think clearly, you can speak and write clearly (Simon 4).” Although he favors proper English, I believe that communicating in any form of English is fine as long as the thoughts are being understood clearly.
John Simon argues how clarity and and concision in the proper English language is important in terms of conveying your ideas to your audiences verbally and in written form (3). Although this is a helpful advice, not all people actually apply it in their daily conversation. Others, mostly young people, tend to use media and social sites to communicate and socialize at the same time, and yet, they compose good essays, learn more, and expand in their literacy knowledge. We are attached to the idea that media and social sites are making the young people illiterate which leads to improper use of English and miscommunication. However, it depends to a person itself.
