As a junior I realize that helping your community benefit you and your community. If everybody helps in your community then your community will be more supportive and safer for the people that live in it. When I realize that I quickly decide that I wanted to start helping my community right away and not wait till my senior year to do it. I started searching for places where I could start helping. I found a place at arch creek elementary school where I could help kids and teachers.
I started working at arch creek for from Monday to Thursday from 2:30 to whatever time I’m done with everything. During the time I would grade student’s papers and sometimes I would help them read and answer questions. It was a great feeling to be helping kids with their works and grading papers I feel like I was giving back to my community. I would come every day except Friday and spend my time with the kids and help them. Even though sometime when I have plans to go to practice I would call coach and tell him that I will be late because I’m doing community service.
I liked the environment where I was because all the people around me were nice and they always help me when I need help and they treat me nicely. I feel like I was doing a good job and I feel like helping my community a lot by helping kids learn more and get smarter. I will continue helping there because I like what I’m doing also think that it is a fun experience to do what I’m doing. Also, through volunteering I started to gain more confidence. Instead of being nervous or scared, I saw this as an experience to meet new people and learn new things. Many people said to me, "How can you enjoy it so much if you receive no money at the end of the week? But the truth of the matter is the feeling of helping someone do what needs to be accomplished is gratification in itself.
